A convicted sex offender considered a high risk to reoffend is living in Regina, police have advised.
According to the Regina Police Service, 46-year-old Kelly Roger Furi moved to the Heritage neighbourhood on Monday, where he is staying at a residence that provides supervision and monitoring of his activities.
The public advisory by the police was issued under the Saskatchewan Public Disclosure Act given Furi is considered high risk to reoffend sexually and/or violently. Police state the provided information is intended so members of the public can take suitable preventative measures, “not to embark upon any form of vigilantism or other unreasonable conduct directed at this individual.”
Furi’s criminal history involves violent sexual offences and reoffending as an adult. On Jan. 6, 2006 in Saskatoon, Furi was sentenced to a further 15 years in prison plus 10 years of community supervision as a long-term offender after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm, and unlawful confinement.
“During his time of incarceration, he has completed programming designated to address his risk factors,” stated the release from the RPS. “Kelly Roger Furi has not made any progress in reducing his high risk to reoffend violently.”
Furi’s past offences led to his being declared a long-term offender, and he has now begun serving the long-term supervision order portion of that sentence. As part of that order, he is to live at an approved residence. He is also to follow a range of conditions, including that he return to the facility each night; not be in the company of sex-trade workers; immediately report all intimate sexual and non-sexual relationships and friendships with females to his parole supervisor; not be in or near areas frequented by sex-trade workers; stay at a community correctional centre or community residential facility for a year; follow a treatment plan or program in the areas of family violence, anger and sexual violence; and have no direct or indirect contact with his victims or members of their families.
Furi is described as a male Caucasian, standing five-foot-11 and weighing approximately 228 pounds. He has brown eyes and short grey/brown hair. He currently has a moustache and beard which is mostly grey in colour.
Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact the RPS at 306-777-6500. Anyone wanting to report an incident in which Furi is believed to be in violation of his conditions should call city police at the above number or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
