    Police now need your help investigating the death of Deanna Desjarlais

    Surrey RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in determining the movements and last known whereabouts of a woman found deceased in Surrey on May 17th of this year.She was recently identified as Deanna DESJARLAIS, age 27, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On May 17, 2016, human remains were located in Hawthorne Park in Surrey. Due to an advanced stage of decomposition, identity could not be determined at the time. On September 13th, in partnership with the BC Coroner’s Service, Lower Mainland Forensic Identification Service (LMD FIS), and BC Police Missing Persons Centre, the remains were identified as those of DESJARLAIS. Surrey RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading this investigation and working with police agencies from around the province to establish the circumstances leading up to her death. The BC Coroners Service continues to look into the cause of death along with LMD FIS and BC RCMP, however nothing suspicious has been identified at this time. The Surrey RCMP is liaising with the family of DESJARLAIS and providing regular updates. In addition, the Surrey RCMP Diversity Unit which includes First Nations officers, has been engaged in this matter with respect to following traditional First Nations protocols surrounding the passing of a person and offering support in the custom of DESJARLAIS’ First Nation community and local territories. DESJARLAIS is described as aboriginal, 5’4 tall, 126 lbs., black hair, and brown eyes.
